Teaching & Learning

Strikes me that the only way someone can be in a church and not mind the lack of good teaching... is if they don't value / appreciate / feel the need for learning.
I see this in a lot of house churches – the devaluing or deprioritizing of teaching.
I see 2 possible reasons:
- people don't really see it as important or necessary (e.g. if you already know everything you need to know, there's no urgency to learn anything new) -OR-
- they've never actually experienced strong teaching in church before (and so they've never become active learners)
Addendum: there's a 3rd possibility:
- they might misunderstand the purpose of a church (e.g. it's to give me community, or teach me how to be a good moral person, or it's about a certain theology... this leads us back into the first reason)
The more you become a lifelong learner (spiritually), the more you will find it difficult to ignore or tolerate the absence of strong teaching.
