What Really Matters?

What Really Matters?

Lord, it strikes me as interesting – in Philly, during seminary, I was desperately hoping to do something that mattered. After all, that was the whole reason I got out of software... and here, 18 years later, I've done some things: planted a church... started 2 breweries... created jobs for 70 people... Laz 1 has done $24 million in total revenue over that time, we returned over $4 million to investors... we planted another church, too...

And still, I wonder if any of it will really matter?

And then I wonder if maybe this process of mucking along and at least trying to make our lives matter, for the sake of the kingdom – maybe this is how you work over time to make our lives matter?

But I know this for sure: just as we're not going to find significance in success, fame, career, family, friends, etc... (or even in ministry)... the solution is not to conclude that these things don't matter, that it doesn't really matter what we do / don't do, etc.

  • Lord, what really matters is your kingdom, which is coming...
  • What matters is you, and that you can be known...
  • And there is so much beauty along the way (and also heartache)...
  • And there are things to do – today, this week, this year – that will matter to you and to others.
